Originally ordered as a crane engine by the War Department during the Great War of 1914 - 1918, the War had ceased by the time by the time this engine was completed in 1919 and the order was cancelled. The engine was purchased Browning Bro's. of Stonehouse, Gloucester and sold in 1921 to Showmen, William and John Cole of Bristol who had it converted to Showman's specification by Sparrow of Matlock, Gloucester. John Cole worked this engine throughout the West Country Fairgrounds until it was returned to his yard at Staplehill Bristol in the early 1950's. Subsequently purchased and fully restored by Jimmy Miller the engine was first rallied in the mid 1950's. Purchased by the present owners in 1989.
